Precipitation Microphysics of Tropical Cyclones over Northeast China in 2020

Landfalling tropical cyclones (TCs) in Northeast China are rare because of the region’s high latitude (>40°N). In 2020, was affected by three TCs within half a month—the first time on record. We used Global Precipitation Measurement orbital dataset to study precipitation microphysics during TC period 2020 (2020-TC), and September this region from 2014 2019 (hereafter 2014–September 2019). FY-4A provide cloud top height (CTH). The results show that, compared with 2019, 2020-TC has stronger ice productivity, weaker deposition efficiency, riming, coalescence processes. storm (STH), CTH, difference between two (CTH-STH) indicative near-surface droplet size distribution (DSD), but there differences: STH CTH-STH both correlate significantly mean mass-weighted drop diameter, whereas only positive correlation CTH normalized concentration parameter passes significance test. These reveal for landfalling China, allow discussion validity convective intensity indicators perspective DSD.
